The true-life tale of a “motherless-daughter’s” extraordinarily bumpy road to motherhood, Lauren Braddock Havey’s memoir, A Journey to the Son, follows Lauren and her husband Jim as they make the brave decision to go through the in vitro process and the white-knuckle journey that ensues. Readers will be touched and united by her experience of what is a decidedly challenging journey, one that is almost tragically derailed (by an amniotic fluid embolism, an extremely rare and most-often fatal obstetric emergency), but which ends happily and triumphantly a year after the baby’s birth.

A Journey to the Son transcends the genre of reproduction literature. Lauren’s engaging wit and honesty pulls the reader in, making her story more than a memoir of fertility treatments, complications, and trauma—Lauren’s story is a celebration of life.

About the Author

Born and raised in Nashville, Lauren Braddock Havey is the only child of legendary country songwriter, producer, and author Bobby Braddock, famed for writing country hits like "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," "He Stopped Loving Her Today,” and "I Wanna Talk About Me."

Lauren attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York where she started writing songs. After drama school she went to Los Angeles where she secured film and television roles and performed her original songs in coffee houses on the famed Sunset Strip. She also did some early demos there with the now immortal Jeff Buckley.

When a publishing deal brought Lauren back to Nashville, she and Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Don Henry recorded her debut self-titled CD, which was backed by an all-star ensemble and received critical praise. Lauren and Don have since recorded Lauren’s sophomore project, a “folk-rock opera” titled A Journey to the Son, a companion piece to her memoir of the same name about a "motherless daughter's" extraordinarily bumpy road to motherhood. Music will be released concurrently with the October 2009 release of her memoir (Two Harbors Press).
