A Listing Wind

When Dr. Clayton Dade, fresh out of medical school, comes to Cooper, Texas, to open his practice, he wonders what life in the small town holds in store for him. He has his uncle Foster—with whom Clay will be living temporarily—to initiate him into the slower pace of the Delta County community, but Clay still questions his own decision to begin a medical practice in a town that, until Clay’s arrival, had known only one doctor in the past fifteen years. He soon learns, however, that many of the townsfolk are welcoming, and others are at least willing to give him a chance. But it’s his first brief encounter with Miss Frances Garner that convinces Clay he’s made the right decision. Although only a few words of conversation are exchanged, Clay knows Frankie Garner is someone he wants to see again.
